MONK OF THE MONTH (August):
Bitty Schram
A wonderful character with a heart of gold and a tough-talking exterior.  Sharona Fleming has come to life with the help of this amazing actress.  There is very little true information on her on the net.  I think it's a shame, because I've become a recent fan of hers and so have many others.  A darling lady in person, I hope you'll find more about her below...

Biography:
(This great write-up is supplied by Allison at the
Yahoo! Groups - bittyschram board - you can visit it here)
Born in Mountainside, New Jersey, BITTY SCHRAM (Amy) "attended the University of Maryland in the late 80s and early 90s on a tennis scholarship, graduated with a degree in advertising design - but had known since high school that she wanted to act" (Judith S. Gillies, Washington Post) and has worked steadily in film since
her hysterical film debut in Penny Marshall's "A League of Their Own," as Evelyn Gardner, right-fielder (Bitty, on a side-note - is left-handed) and mom who learns the hard way from Tom Hanks that "there's no crying in baseball!" Her other film credits include Warren Leight's "The Night We Never Met," "Dennis Hopper's "Chasers" and Paul Mones' "Fathers and Sons." On television, she
has been seen in the CBS pilot "Wish You Were Here" and the ABC pilot "Island Fever." Her theatre experience includes her Broadway debut in Neil Simon's play "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" (1993), directed by Jerry Zaks. Most recently seen in Matt Reeves' "The Pallbearer" with David Schwimmer and Gwyneth Paltrow,
Schram's upcoming projects included Jerry Zaks' "Marvin's Room" for Miramax and Michael Hoffman's "One Fine Day" for Twentieth Century Fox.  Other theatre work includes: Slow Dance on the Killing Ground, One Acts by Warren Leight, Blackout.

Fan & Other Thoughts on Bitty:
Anne Ramsay, a very nice lady whom I met at a Hollywood collectors show
and who was one of Bitty's co-stars in A League of Their Own, had nothing
but nice things to say about her and also told me that Bitty "wanted to be
a movie star like Meryl Streep;" she hadn't wanted to do television originally.
    - Allison L.F.

"On USA Network's summer hit Monk, the pathologically phobic but brilliant
detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) would be lost without his constant
companion and nurse Sharona (Bitty Schram). Likewise, the show is
unimaginable without the scene-stealing sidekick, a feisty single mom who
loves the adventure even when Monk drives her to distraction. Equal parts
protector and nudge, she is proud of her association with Monk but also so
exasperated she often threatens to quit. Let's hope that never happens."
    - Matt Roush

My thought on Bitty Schram is that she is a wonderful and talented actress. She
plays characters that are memorable. Especially the one she played in A League Of
Their Own. When she portrays a character, she brings great insight as to how the
character is. Which makes her characters memorable and that you never forget the characters long after the story has ended.

    - Nightwolf

From what I hear from others from most interviews, it sounds like Bitty is a
very nice, but very shy person.  She is an amazing actress who has a nice
    variety of roles.

In "Monk", she plays Sharona Fleming, a woman who fears it won't take long for her
to finally become as crazy as her nerve-wracking boss - Adrian Monk.  Though she
has a LOT of patience - proabably more than most - every once in a while, she loses
    her cool.  Sharona's a spunky single parent who's Adrian's partner in crime-solving.

In "A League of Their Own", she plays a mother of one of the most annoying brats
ever - her character doesn't change THAT much! (I haven't seen the movie more than
once, but I do remember that her son was particularly annoying because she couldn't
control him.  Back-up help on remembering this movie!)

I have not seen anything else that she was in, but I certainly got a lot from the
    characters she played/plays.

    In conclusion-

    THREE CHEERS FOR BITTY!
    Hip-hip-Hooray! (and so on...)

    - Mindy K.

Bitty Schram is a talented, likeable actress who is
probably best known as the player who's the subject of
Tom Hanks' "There's no crying baseball!" in A LEAGUE
OF THEIR OWN. The fact that she's not better known is
a sign that Hollywood doesn't know what to do with
strong, funny, intelligent actresses. Ms. Schramm
would be wonderful in screwball comedy roles--she has
more than a touch of Carole Lombard. The role of
Sharona Fleming in MONK provides her with some of the
best acting opportunities she's had in her career, but
I hope it also leads to better parts.
