THE wait is over. 

Fans of the delicious mystery series "Monk" can settle in tonight for another slick whodunit with the obsessive-compulsive San Francisco detective Adrian Monk. 

Tony Shalhoub ("Wings") took home a Golden Globe for his performance in the freshman season of this entertaining show which deftly mixes comedy and dramatic elements. 

The sad news is that ABC has opted, at this time, not to air the series. Too bad. It was one of the bright spots on an otherwise dismal slate of new shows for the network. 

ABC let this one languish on the shelf for years before the cable channel USA picked it up. ABC jumped on board after "Monk" posted some great numbers. Sadly, the ABC execs opted for yet another round of reality series this summer instead of bringing "Monk" back to their dog days schedule.
