Learn about Cockatiels Page
Here are some Information about Cockatiels Also some links at the bottoms
Background InformationCockatiels are nomadic natives of the arid Australian interior. With a characteristic head crest, they look similar to cockatoos, but with a more slender form and a relatively long tail. Wild cockatiels are primarily gray, with yellow on the head and crest, white on the sides of the wings, and orange on cheek patches. Breeders have developed numerous other mutations over the decades.
Cockatiels have become popular pets due to their attractive appearance, low-cost, manageability, friendliness, and intelligence. They can live for over twenty years, are small and relatively quiet, can talk (although not as readily or as well as other parrots can), and can become adept whistlers. 'Tiels posses many of the most endearing attributes of larger parrots, but without the accompanying problems.A pet cockatiel? How can it be affectionate?
A tame cockatiel can be very affectionate. It loves to be petted and cuddled. Cockatiels are very social by nature; they survive in the wild by hanging around other 'tiels in a flock. So, they get along well with everyone, even to the point of devotion. It's pretty cool when your bird is on your shoulder and starts to clean your hair with it's beak (preening) and snuggles up to your ear.
Unlike virtually all pets but dogs and other birds, 'tiels can be taught to "come" on command. Note, though, that not all 'tiels are perfect pets; much of the issue involves an individual's personality, and it's best to get one young and hand-fed.
